The natural world
I chose this theme because I felt as if there is a lot I can experiment with and within the natural world there are many concepts which I can learn more about and explore.
Karl Blossfeldt
Karl Blossfeldt takes photographs close up of plants and living things. He used a home made camera to take some of he's pictures.Karl Blossfeldt was trained as a sculptor. His photographs are distinctive because the plants look like they are not plants. They look like they might be made out of metal or carved out of wood.
These are some pictures I took on holiday they where inspired by nature I decided to take them because the related to my theme and they looked like an idea I could develop these are the photos I used for my final piece.

Rainy day
'Constructed Landscapes' workshop with Dafna Talmor
Dafna Talmor is an artist who travels a lot and takes pictures of landscapes while on her travels. To make a constructed landsacpe dafna takes a colour negative which was a normal photograph and she cuts it up.
These are the images I made using Dafna's process, the way I made the first picture is I used slides from Dafna's next door neighbour I choose a slide that I thought looked interesting I then put the slide onto a light box so I could see the image and I took the case off then I used a scalpel to cut out part of the image after I did this I used ink to paint the image in the places I thought it looked best. For the second image I repeated some of the steps but I didn't use any ink and I cut out some of the faces as i thought this would make the photo more intriguing .
photoshop
This picture was made from 2 different pictures one of leaves and the other of the sea and they where photo shopped to look like that
My final piece evaluation
My final piece was inspired by filters and how adding an effect can change the photo. It opens up a whole different aspect of photography and makes you question whether what you see is the real photo or if it has been edited. To make my final piece I used instagram effects and used took a screen shot of the whole image with the effect border around it as it tells you whether the picture has been edited. There are loads of effects which can be used on one picture which can change the way the picture looks.
Unit 1 evaluation
My most successful projects where edges and the natural world as I got the best final outcomes from these I have researched many artists during this project such as Dafna Talmor, and some others I discovered some of them on pinterest. From studying their work i've learned that a photo can be edited to look different and it doesn't have to be the original photograph. By looking at other artists they've inspired me to make similar work and opened me up to new ideas. The theme I explored was edges and the natural world. When i first began to explore the theme edges i thought there wouldn't be much to take photos of and i didn't really understand the theme but after researching other photographers work, I started to enjoy this theme and I got more ideas. The threshold concept I used is 'photographs are abstraction shaped by technology' this is shown in my final piece for the theme natural world where I altered the original image using effects, this shows that photographs are adaptions of the real world and can be changed by technology.
I have explored a range of media, processes and techniques in this project . We started with whole class project where we had an artist visiting the school and we made hand made slides. We had some old slides we we cut up and made abstract images. This gave me another idea. This included using a DSLR to take pictures of nature such as leaves, flowers and trees. I used photoshop to combine 2 of my photos and I experimented with adding colour to certain parts of the photo and I also experimented in the dark room making photograms which turned out well and related to my theme. When i was on holiday in Albania and Greece i continued with the theme and took photos of nature. To improve the photos i used for my final outcome I went on instagram and edited the photos using an effect, and the effects became something that I was interested in because photographs aren't believable and you don't know whats real and whats been edited to look different.
I am pleased with my final outcome because I think it relates to the theme.
